Empowering Clients and Teams: Daan’s Role at Baseblue

In our latest “Life at Baseblue” campaign, we had the opportunity to sit down with Daan Jager, Trader, to discuss his journey into the world of trading, his role within the team, and the rewarding aspects of his career.
As a team leader at Baseblue, I play a pivotal role in supporting both traders and clients. My day-to-day responsibilities involve assisting traders with their inquiries while helping clients navigate future challenges and uncover new opportunities. My work is dynamic, balancing team leadership with client interaction to ensure everyone receives the guidance and support they need.
My path into trading wasn’t always clear. I was initially uncertain about the profession, but I quickly discovered a passion for it. I see trading as a game, where each trader develops their own unique style. What I enjoy most is the autonomy and responsibility that come with the job. For me, the real reward lies in finding innovative solutions for my clients—often identifying opportunities they hadn’t considered. It’s this deep understanding of client needs that drives my success.
One of my proudest moments at Baseblue was helping a start-up client who was struggling with cash flow issues. By working closely with my team and adjusting the payment terms for bunkers, I was able to alleviate the client’s financial strain. This experience highlighted the added value Baseblue offers beyond just delivering bunkers—it showcased our commitment to client success through creative, tailored solutions and open communication.
I am also passionate about educating clients on the importance of risk management in bunker procurement. In today’s volatile market, I encourage clients to view risk management strategies not as burdens, but as valuable opportunities. While building awareness takes time, I’m confident that more clients will embrace these strategies as they better understand the benefits.
For me, listening is the key to success in trading. I believe that every client is unique, and adapting to their specific needs is crucial. I’m constantly developing my skills, and I embrace the idea that learning never stops. By asking the right questions and pushing clients beyond their comfort zones, I consistently uncover new opportunities that benefit both parties, strengthening relationships and ensuring long-term success.
