In this blog, Pablo Laviano, an Operator from our Buenos Aires office, offers a look at his story of growth, challenges, and triumphs within the maritime community.
In the unique port of Zona Comun, Argentina, I find my role as an operator to be both challenging and rewarding. There’s always something new to learn, and I take pride in sharing this knowledge with my colleagues, both in the office and across other locations.
My day typically starts with a review of pending tasks from the previous day. More often, I check the AIS and emails to stay updated on the upcoming deliveries, ensuring all documentation is in order for customs and coastguards.
The team spirit at Baseblue is truly special. My colleagues are approachable and friendly, creating a work environment that I find to be the most important aspect of a job. It’s the good work environment that I cherish here.
There have been instances where I’ve been called upon to resolve urgent issues, like the time an agent informed me that customs were holding up a supply because a document was missing by the physical supplier. We managed to sort it out after a few minutes and calls, but it’s a reminder that you have to stay alert at all times and keep your phone close to avoid missing something important. In this case, our client’s vessel could have faced fines from terminal authorities for overstaying after their cargo operation at berth, but thanks to Baseblue’s 24/7 support system, we averted that.
Coming from a maritime agency and living in a small city, moving to Buenos Aires and starting to work here represented a significant change. It allowed me to see the industry from a higher perspective, which has been both a huge personal and professional shift for me.
What I consider to be the best learning experience is witnessing a worldwide company like Baseblue operate from the “front seat.” Seeing how connected it is within its offices in Asia, Europe, and Argentina, and being part of a global network that involves many other parties in this industry, is fascinating.
